Model Railway Club Homeless

Syston Model Railway Society are urgently looking for a new home after a recent electrical and safety inspection found the club rooms dangerous and unsafe.
The Club have enjoyed over 30 years of building model railways at the Old School, Melton Road, Thurmaston but this will now have to be vacated.
Various members’ layouts have appeared in national magazines and one Club layout, Horse Cove, is due to appear in a national magazine in the near future.
Over the last 25 years the Club has organised a very popular model railway exhibition, currently in Sileby, Leicestershire. Over the past 8 years nearly £3000 has been donated to local charities. This year £450 will be donated to Rainbows.
Chris Leach, from the Society, said, “We are willing to consider anything. We know that finding space of 1200 sq feet, insulated and secure, with electrics, access to water and a toilet, at a price we can afford, will be difficult. However, surely there must be some industrial, warehouse, or farm premises available somewhere in Syston, or the nearby area..”
This may be the end of one era for the society, but with your help, it may be the start of another.
Could anyone who can help please contact Chris Leach on 0116 260 5760 to discuss or for further information.
We are currently meeting on a temporary basis at 7.30pm on most Mondays at the East Goscote Library.

In February over 800 people attended our exhibition at Sileby. The show featured 15 top quality layouts in nine different gauges including a 27 foot scale model of the Forth Bridge.
The winner of the layout of the show was Trinity Dock Street Bridge, a very detailed layout from Birmingham, receiving a prize of two bottles of wine. A donation from the show of £450 was made to ‘Rainbows’ and a collection of over £100 was raised for ‘Help the Heroes’. Next year will be our 25th Anniversary Exhibition on 15th and 16th February 2020.
