The Mop Has to Go – Brave the Shave

On Thursday 18th April, five local men took the challenge to have their heads shaved for Macmillan Cancer Support to highlight what they do for families in need.
Vinny Martin organised it to say thank you for all the support shown to him and his family by Macmillan, he was joined by Sam Potter, Nathan Martin, Tom Patterson and Sam Martin.
Vinny reported “We wanted to support this charity as they have recently helped my immediate family twice. First with my wife (Justine) by giving wellbeing/pampering days, help with completing forms and financial advice. During treatment it is very difficult to concentrate on form filling or communicating with others. Macmillan steps in and does this for you with your best interests at the forefront.
This year they helped my daughter (Rosie) after a short illness. She found herself not knowing who to turn to after financial institutes and governing bodies badly let her down. Macmillan again stepped in and picked up Rosie’s case. After a lengthy process with many letters Macmillan made a successful result.
It would be easy to just give Macmillan money to say thank you, but this way we can highlight what they do for families in need. This subject is very close to our hearts due to family and friends being affected by cancer. Any funds raised is a massive help to the continuous support they give. Macmillan is funded on donations and without their service our journeys would have been so much harder.”
It was an amazing evening at the Beer Pharmacie. The new quirky function room upstairs was full to bursting as the community of Syston and surrounding villages were out to show their full support.
At the time of going to print they have raised over £3,000.
Thanks go to the Beer Pharmacie for hosting the event and to Jewles and her daughter Jodie for kindly shaving the guys’ heads.
