Dear Editor
Thanks to the Syston Town News August Issue – the Editors report on the Town Council Meeting held on Tuesday 25th June.
I was amazed to learn that it is proposed that the No 27 bus to Loughborough via Rothley, Mountsorrell, Sileby, Seagrave, Waltham, Barrow-upon Soar and Cotes Road is to cease.
With regard to a consultation meeting held at the Community Centre on 10th July I have not yet been able to find anyone who was aware of this meeting, it certainly was not publicised. Posters should have been displayed widely on Bus Stops and in the Town Square and in local shops, one can only wonder if this was deliberate so that the general public were not aware of this situation.
We pay our Council Tax to Charnwood Borough Council, Loughborough but we will not be able to journey by bus to visit our Market Town of Loughborough and any of the other said villages to visit family, friends or places of employment.
On Market Days, i.e. Thursday and Saturday the bus is virtually full before it leaves Syston – surely the least we can expect in that a service be provided on these two days. We shall no longer be able to visit Asda and Thurmaston Shopping Outlet. I have witnessed many people from Sileby who use this bus to do their shopping in Syston, Asda and Thurmaston outlet shops, again this taking away trade from these areas.
I have spoken to Cllr K. Pacey in regard to this and have also spoken to our MP’s office and await a call from Mr Edward Argar. I would expect both the Council and an MP to be 100% behind us to stop this happening.
I understand the governments policy on this that rural bus services should be maintained and they provide funds for this – or is this just another excuse NO RURAL BUS SERVICE – so Leicestershire County Council can do away with Pensioner’s Bus Passes?
Your sincerely
Mrs D. MartinSyston
