Town CC End of Season Celebrations

The club held their annual ‘Pub Day’ competition over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Organiser Andy Woolaston invited six teams to take part and he managed to arrange for the sun to shine all day. Beedles Golf Club were the eventual winners overcoming The Wheel in the final as the light faded on a splendid occasion.
The club held their President’s Day celebration at the ground in September and during the afternoon the Sunday XI played their final GMCA match of the season against Queniborough. Before the start of the game President David Fox, and over fifty members and sponsors were entertained to a superb roast lunch in the clubhouse. The meal was provided by Lee and Katie Harding the proprietors of Rustic Kitchen and although I seem to say it every year, the quality really does gets better and better. The whole day was superbly organised and a great credit to the club. Even the sun managed to shine once more. Syston batted first and racked up 241-3 with Deon Burton hitting his second century of the season in his final game for the club. As we head into winter Deon has headed home to the sunshine of the Caribbean. It has been a pleasure to have had him with us. Already promoted Queniborough made a good fist of their reply but fell just short on 218-7 with Ben Tebbutt the pick of the bowlers with 3-40. This was the side’s fifth win of the season and saw them finish comfortably in mid-table in Division 2.
The 1st XI finished their season with another nail biting victory at Kegworth which banished any relegation fears and saw them finish
comfortably in mid-table in the Premier Division. They bowled out their hosts for a very gettable 150 with three wickets each for George Corbett and Asif Mai. In reply, despite 37 from Aleem Mahmood, Syston slumped to 109-9 before Zahir Taher (26 not out) and Bilal Pardesi (21 not out) put on 45 for the last wicket and saw Syston home for the third time this season by the narrowest of margins.
The 2nd XI, already safe in mid-table in Division 3, seemed to be on the way to a reasonable total against Loughborough Greenfields when they reached drinks at 100-5. However, four wickets fell for no runs before Joe Storer (30 not out) and Adil Jariwala (15) added 45 for the last wicket in a final total of 145. Syston tried hard after tea but couldn’t make a significant breakthrough and Greenfields got home to win by 5 wickets.
