Syston Scout Group

Scouting is a worldwide movement. In over 200 countries, scouts make a promise to do their best and help other people. Even though we all speak different languages, and have different cultures and beliefs, this brings us together. The fourth Scout Law says that ‘A Scout belongs to the worldwide family of Scouts’. Our Promise is a commitment to be an active citizen in our community and the wider world – because families look after each other. This same commitment is also integral to the aims of the Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals were agreed by UN member States back in 2015. The 17 goals aim to:- eradicate extreme poverty- reduce inequality- fix climate change. These incredible aims will only be met by 2030 if we all contribute. With this in mind in 2020, Syston Scout Group will be focusing on helping the planet be sustainable in line with the development goals. This will see the young people learn about the issues and take action in a range of ways, from helping reduce energy usage at home, raising money and gathering donations for courses such as Oxfam, Sports Relief and Children in need. The Young people will also be looking closer to home on how we all can make a difference in Syston for our future. To find out more what the Young People are doing visit our Facebook Page “Syston Scout Group” or our website Why not check out the Syston Scout & Guide band in their very own annual variety show ‘Sticks & Tones’ on 22nd February 2020 at Wreake Valley Academy Theatre.
