During lockdown it has been noticeable the lack of rubbish blighting our streets. Unfortunately as restrictions are being lifted the problem is starting again.
We have had several readers contact us with pictures as shown below or letters on the subject.
Syston does have wastebins on most streets and every home in the town has a waste bin that are emptied fortnightly. So there really is no reason for litter anywhere in our town.
We do have road sweepers but due to council cuts they don’t visit Syston every day or even every week – so it is up to us the residents to help keep our town clean.
The following letter is just one that we have received with pictures – we hope that residents will follow this young lady’s lead and keep your area clean. Place rubbish in a bin or take it home a dispose of it there. Don’t Litter Syston!
I took my six year old daughter on a walk this week (15th June) and she was disgusted by how much litter there was lying around.
We went home and picked up a bin bags and some grabbers and in just 0.3miles of path she filled a bin bag full.
She wants to keep going out to clean up the whole town and she and her mum were wondering if it was possible through the paper to can get people cleaning up their own streets a bit.
Maybe together we can clean up Syston.
