Building work is underway at St Peter and St Paul Academy following funding from Leicestershire County Council to increase the number of school places.
School applications have risen steadily in recent years and the academy is consistently oversubscribed. Following a £1.1 million grant from the county council, the academy is building three new, state-of-the-art classrooms and refurbishing the Early Years Foundation Stage in order to accommodate more pupils from August 2021.
‘The children have been fascinated watching the diggers and cranes over the last few months and are excited about moving into the new classrooms.’ Commented a year 1 parent.
‘It’s wonderful to see the new building taking shape. The school has historically turned down applications due to being oversubscribed, but we will now be able to offer places to more local children. I am pleased that the council have recognised our strong track record for providing a first-class education and are investing in the school’s facilities. There are no religious requirements within our admissions policy and we welcome families from all cultures, faiths and non-faith backgrounds. It will be a joy to see our school community grow over the coming years.’ Said Headteacher Mrs Claire Mulhern, who joined the school earlier this year.
The school grounds already boast excellent facilities, including an all-weather pitch, adventure playground, trim trail, peace garden, forest school and a generous-sized field. With three school halls and an in-house kitchen team, the school has been able to offer freshly-cooked school dinners throughout both national lockdowns as well as wrap-around care from 7.30am through to 6pm and after-school sports clubs.
The school is graded ‘Good’ by Ofsted, ‘Outstanding’ by the Diocese and parents speak highly of their children’s experiences at the academy, with 96% recommending the school through the ParentView website (112 responses, Feb 2020).
The new building extension is expected to be completed in March 2021, with more children admitted to the academy from August 2021.
The school has released a video to give prospective parents an insight into the Early Years Foundation Stage https://vimeo.com/478020385 and is offering tours by appointment through the school office (contacted through firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 0116 260 7577 during school hours). Prospective parents can also get a flavour of the school through Twitter @SPSPAcademy.
Applications for children who turn four before 1st September 2021 should be submitted through the council website before 15th January 2021.
