Every year the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire Michael Kapur OBE has a reward scheme to celebrate the efforts and successes of 13-19 year olds.
This year there are two local finalists in the Volunteer of the Year award category, namely Eleanor Wilkinson, 18 who lives in Syston and Kristian Brocksopp, 17 who lives in Ratcliffe on the Wreake and attends Ratcliffe College.
Kristain, pictured above, has sent us the following from the Lord-Lieutenant’s office.
Congratulations to Kristian Brocksopp, Year 13, who won the Lord Lieutenant’s Young Volunteer of the Year Award at the virtual award ceremony on Tuesday evening.
Kristian was nominated for the work he does with Takeover Children’s Radio Station, where he organizes all of the recruitment and training of new members to enable them to produce their own shows. He presents two shows a week as well as doing other outside broadcasts. Kristian is technical advisor to the station and is often called in to help and organise advertising and fundraising to keep the station, which supports children from all areas, without them having to contribute, financially. Kristian is also the football referee’s Secretary for the Mutual league and books ninety referees each week to cover children’s football matches. He mentors new referees and supports them at their games. He is the youngest Secretary in the county. Kristian was short-listed for the ceremony, scheduled for April, but it was cancelled due to the pandemic, so Kristian attended the ceremony, virtually, on Tuesday and was delighted to find out that he had won the award.
The Ceremony can be seen on the Lord Lieutenant’s YouTube page to watch the awards (Kristian is featured after 29 minutes).
