New Barkby W.I’s last organised meeting was held at the Community Centre in Syston in March. So in August there was a social-distancing get together for members who wished to attend. Seven members responded and enjoyed a pleasant summers evening catching up on various experiences.
The Annual meeting should have taken place on Wednesday 4th November. Instead President Kerstyn Fryman sent a written statement to members, mentioning some of the interesting speakers and great times the institute has enjoyed during her three years in office; in particular the very successful carol concert in 2019, which New Barkby organised for the Soar Valley Group of W.I’s.
Dawn Haynes thanked members for their support to her as secretary. Both Kerstyn and Dawn are stepping down from their officers roles so a postal vote for nominations was organised by the committee. Shirley Franklyn was nominated and agreed to take on the role of President. Angela Montague accepted a nomination and will become secretary.
There was a written financial statement by the Treasurer and at a future date, other committee roles will be set out. Also, a plan to celebrate 95 years of New Barkby Institute has had to be postponed at present. The outgoing President and Secretary each received a bag of sweet treats.
Best wishes to all readers of Syston Town News, especially during these strange and challenging times.
