At Long Last Cricket Is on the Way

Despite being flooded on a few occasions during the winter, the ground has not suffered the catastrophic flood damage of last year and Syston Town C.C. are confident of starting the new league season on time. Players and supporters are all looking forward to seeing some competitive cricket at the ground and hope that glorious summer days, as shown on the photograph above, will be repeated many times this summer. What restrictions will be in place are yet to be announced by the ECB but it may mean that the changing rooms and the club room will initially be out of bounds. The ban on overseas travel also means that, unfortunately, once again we won’t be seeing Australian all-rounder Matt Russo. The club has been in regular contact with Matt who has been in good form down under and we all hope that it will be third time lucky in 2022.

The 1st XI, skippered by Mo Pardesi, begin their Premier Division campaign with a trip to play Kegworth Town. They then have a home match against Leicester Ivanhoe before they go on their travels once more to play Kibworth. After a bye in the first round of the County Cup, the club will entertain Shepshed on 13th June. The 2nd XI under the leadership of Adam Mortimer, will again be featuring in Division 3 East. They start their season at home to Leicester University Staff then travel to play Ketton Sports before returning home to face Medbourne.

The Sunday XI have an early start to their GMCA Division 3 season with a trip to Croxton Kerrial on 11th April. Ivan Spibey and his lads then have a break until 2nd May when they face Market Overton at home before they go away again to Stamford. The Women’s team, known as The Sirens, start their season on 2nd May with a trip to play Brixworth then on 30th May they go to Lutterworth to play both the home team and the Street Starz. The club will also be fielding teams at Kwik cricket, Under 13 and Under 15 age groups and have again entered a team in Division 3 of the Burrough & District Evening League which will be a mixture of youth and experience. Fixtures and contact details for all teams, when they are available, will be posted on the club’s website www.systontowncricketclub.co.uk.
