Another Journey for LOROS -Three generations – 14 weeks – 1000 miles!

After the successful virtual pedal to Norfolk and back last year, Maureen made the comment, “Where next – Lands End to John o’ Groats?!” When the ‘From Classics to Jazz’ concert again could not take place this year, she thought she had better keep to her word! On April 13th, her 80th birthday, Maureen ‘set off’ from John o’ Groats and Rachael from Lands End, aiming to meet somewhere near Kendal on July 19th, the 23rd anniversary of when Maureen’s husband Jim passed away in LOROS. Faith, Maureen’s 8-year-old granddaughter, wanted to help fundraise, and inspired by Captain Sir Tom’s ‘100 Challenge’, she has walked and cycled 100 miles, equivalent to the distance between her home in Hull and LOROS. Maureen and Rachael have completed 450 miles each, having decided to pedal a few miles further and ‘meet up’ in Windermere.
Maureen hopes the ‘From Classics to Jazz’ concert can take place next April, or who knows where she might have to pedal to?!
So far they have raised £776 and would like to thank everyone who has already supported them in their fundraising efforts for LOROS, a cause so close to their hearts.
They now wonder if it is possible to reach £1,000 for 1,000 miles. The fundraising page will remain open throughout the summer and they would be very grateful for any further donations.
Donations can be made via their Just Giving page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/maureen-lawson1 and cheques made payable to LOROS (with Maureen’s ‘Another Journey for LOROS’ on the back) may be sent to Syston Town News, 55 Goodes Lane, Syston, Leics. LE7 2JL, and they will forward them to her.
