New Barkby W.I.
Mrs S Franklin, President, welcomed members and visitors to the institute’s October meeting.
Jerusalem was sung, followed by a few business matters. Future events for the L&R Federation were available to read in a file of correspondence papers.
Speaker for the evening on ‘Patchwork for Pleasure’ was Carolyn Boulter from Barwell. There was a demonstration of making a flower brooch from different pieces of material which then became a hands-on session for members to make their own. One length of material used a running stitch and then gathered into a circle, a second round piece, using a similar procedure was then attached to the first piece and sewn on, followed by a button sewn into place and at the end of the evening, everyone had used their own kits to produce a very decorative brooch, which were pinned on to their clothing.
Carolyn brought along a variety of items for the brooches, which can be used for attaching to pencil cases, purses and other items – all very colourful. Everyone enjoyed the crafty evening.
The vote of thanks was given by Mrs K Fryman.
Next meeting on Wednesday 3rd November will be our annual meeting and starts at 7.30pm plus a fun auction afterwards at Syston Community Centre. All visitors welcome.
