Syston in the 20th Century – A New Book
Syston Local History Group are poised to launch their latest publication on the history of ‘Syston in the 20th Century’.
The Stn has already printed some tasters which hopefully will have given readers a brief insight into this exciting new book.
The book was the brainchild of Felicity Austin who believed there were so many interesting memories to be shared about this once small village that nothing short of a book would do. Started just before the beginning of the Covid pandemic and with help from many local residents and friends, a fascinating collection of memoirs and photos intermingled with the many events of the twentieth century, has been produced.
So many people contributed their memoirs and photos that it has resulted in the need for two volumes. Volume one will be available from 6th November and volume two will follow in spring 2022.
Each volume will cost just £15. Perhaps an ideal gift for someone on your Christmas list but certainly a must for anyone interested in how our once small village grew into the town we see today.
Following the launch it will be available for purchase at nine local shops and the town council offices. All shops stocking the book will have a poster in their window.
The launch of volume one will take place at Syston’s parish church of St. Peter and St Paul on 6th November from 10.00am – 12.00 noon when the book will be on sale.
In addition, there will be refreshments, a raffle and a number of displays depicting aspects of local society throughout the twentieth century. We would like to invite everyone to join us in this celebration of Syston and its people.
For those who wish to buy a book but are unable to travel into Syston, you can call into Pat Pick of 34, Glebe Road, Queniborough, she has kindly offered to stock some books.
