Sparkling Loughborough loo Secures Diamond Award

Loughborough’s town centre public toilets are officially sparkling after receiving a top national rating.

The conveniences in the Market Place, which are proudly looked after by Charnwood Borough Council staff, have been given the Diamond Award, the highest possible accolade, in the Loo of the Year Awards.

It is the first time the toilets have received the diamond rating after scoring platinum in recent years.

Cllr Jenny Bokor, lead member for Loughborough said: “It is fantastic to see the cleaning staff once again being recognised for all their hard work over the past year. This one is extra special, earning the highest recognition possible for the first time. These toilets provide a vital service to residents and market traders in the centre of the town and the Council is proud to operate them”.

Jeanette Woolley, public convenience supervisor at the Council, has been maintaining the toilets in the town centre for nearly 20 years.

Jeanette said: “We are so pleased that all of our hard work has been rewarded by receiving the highest accolade from the Loo of the Year awards. I have worked on these toilets for many years now and I am so proud of the team that work to keep the toilets clean and maintained to the highest standards. We work hard to make sure that the toilets are open every day of the week for members of the public and for those who work on the markets in the town.”

The team at the Market Place toilets have also won the ‘Washroom Cleaner of the Year’ award.

The Market Place toilets are open seven days a week and include baby changing facilities and a disabled toilet.

The Loo of the Year Awards are run independently and were first established in 1987. The awards encourage the highest possible standards in all ‘away from home’ washrooms and each entry is assessed against criteria which covers both male and female facilities, as well as any baby changing, accessibility, changing places, space to change or hygiene room facilities.
