Dear Editor,
Jan and I would like to thank our neighbours Tara, Wayne, Dawn and Darren for organising the Queens Garden Party on our little park on the 3th June.
You did a fantastic job.
Derrick and Jan Chambers (Whissendine)

Dear Editor
Quite agree with the anonymous letter-writer of the last issue on the Council’s snubbing of the Jubilee. This does seem typical of the Council’s recent ‘form’. For example, its almost blatant hacking down of two perfectly healthy and wildlife friendly trees near the brook, on the grounds that it was cheaper than flattening out the ridges (which we’re apparently stuck with forever); and it’s complete silence over the disgraceful power-shift that has seen patients placed at the beck and call of Drs and receptionists for the first time in history (and which likewise seems set to carry on infinitum as far as the surgery is concerned). It’s main achievement has been the wasting of a lot of money on gym equipment that never gets used and on tin cut-outs of soldiers.
It has certainly had nothing to say about the closure of four banks and the gradual filling up of the town with nail bars and tattoo parlours.
So yes, in the face of all this, what chance does the Queen stand? Off with their heads I say! (or at least their chains of office.
Yours etc.

“Where were Syston’s Jubilee celebrations?
Dear Editor,
I was fortunate to be invited to Barkby celebrations, lighting the beacon, cricket match, music, bbq, dance and bring your own picnic lunch.
Some of Syston shops were decorated and some bunting put up and there was a good exhibition in St Peter and St Paul church but nothing arranged by the Town Council to commemorate our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee –  SHAME ON YOU SYSTON TOWN COUNCIL.  Queniborough, Thurmaston and others managed to celebrate – why didn’t Syston?”
Many thanks.
