Second Time Around
On Monday 5th September, a new shop opened in the Syston Town Square called ‘Second Time Around’. For the last eight years Victoria and Jackie have successfully managed the Cauda Equina charity shop and after both being made redundant due to the spinal injuries association deciding that their fundraising future would no longer be in retail sales, the ladies decided to put their previous experience to good use. These wonderful ladies have opened a CIC (community interest company). A non profit company whose proceeds will go to local activities, groups and seasonal fundraising ventures in the Syston community.
After eight years of building up a friendship with local people in the shop they are continuing on with second hand goods and would love local people to donate items such as clothing, bric a brac, household items, books, dvd’s, vinyl and craft items (wool, buttons, patterns etc.). Victoria and Jackie are using help from Charnwood Borough Council and experience from Voluntary Action Leicester to find the best ways to help local projects. Please pop in for a leaflet or to know more, speak to Victoria and Jackie. “This is a big step in today’s current economic climate and we hope by selling low cost, second hand goods, we can help those who need it”. They wouldn’t be able to do this without the community’s help, by donating to them, it reduces the amount of items ending up in landfill which can make a huge difference. This wonderful shop also has the option to collect items from Syston houses directly, just pop in and arrange a suitable collection time.
The shop opening hours are 9am to 3.30pm, Monday-Saturday and the new telephone number is 0116 319 1311, alternatively you can email secondtimearoundsyston@hotmail.com
