Syston Christmas Fayre
On Friday 2nd December 2022, the people of Syston gathered in the town for a spot of late-night shopping and a Christmas fair. After everything we have encountered the past few years, this really was a great turnout with everyone laughing and smiling and children having fun on the rides. The smiles on the faces of the children as the lights lit up the town at 5pm was a heart-warming thing to see.
The local shops and small businesses were open late for everyone. This included various places like Paper Moon, Delish and Charity Shops. I went for a visit to Delish and they had accommodated a couple of stalls inside this gorgeous little cafe. These stalls included beauty products, health products and various assortments of gifts. The queue for drinks from this small cafe was incredible and I was so happy to see so many people of Syston, supporting a small business.
On visiting the community centre there was three rooms full of different stalls and businesses as well as raffles and tombola’s which everyone was very happy to have a go on. This ranged from Handcrafted food and beauty products to Art and Handmade jewellery. These stalls were filled with gorgeous items and there was even a talented young gentleman who had created portraits of artists like Freddie Mercury and David Bowie on their respective Vinyl Records using an intricate saw. The amount of care and detail that had gone into this was incredible. There were also appearances from Syston’s U3A Happy Ukulele Band who performed in the foyer of the Community Centre and Loros Hospice at their stall in the Community Centre too.
Ending the fun filled and busy evening was a short firework display on the Central Park. On arrival, half of the Central Park was cordoned off and everyone slowly gathered on the other half of the field to watch the display. It was the spectacle of the night with faces happy and bright when the fireworks were let off to the song, ‘The Greatest Show’ from popular movie starring Hugh Jackman and Zac Effron, ‘The Greatest Showman’. The display was short and sweet but seemed to amaze everyone at the end of the night including myself. This was a night to remember for a lot of people and the community certainly needed it with Christmas fast approaching.
