Town C.C. Become County Champions

In March, Syston Town C.C’’s women’s team, the Sirens, won the first silverware of the season by becoming Women’s Indoor Social League County Champions. Captain Hannah Driver and her team are shown in the photograph with their trophy. What a brilliant result and a superb way to set the season off. Very well done ladies.
Unfortunately the weather in March was not very kind with twice the average rainfall during the month. This resulted in ground preparation works being behind schedule and although the season will now be underway, at the time of writing some sunshine and warm weather were desperately needed. However, despite the gloom, the planned improvements to the clubhouse were completed before the start of the season. A splendid new carpet was laid in the clubroom by Costcutter Carpets, new chairs were purchased from Leicester Office Equipment Ltd and Alan Beynon constructed new stairs up to the changing rooms and up to the clubroom.
Although the season has now started it is still only early May and it’s not too late for players of all age groups to join Syston Town C.C. if they wish to play cricket. The club has excellent playing and practice facilities so if you are undecided then come along to one of the practice evenings at the ground and give it a go. Players of all age groups and abilities are always welcome. On Mondays the Sunday XI and the Burrough League teams have use of the nets followed on Tuesdays by the Under 15s, Under 17s and Under 19s. The senior teams practice on Wednesdays followed by the Sirens on Thursday evenings. All other juniors, from Kwiks to U13s finish the week on Friday evenings.
Practice sessions start around 6pm and for advice about seniors please ring Ivan Spibey on 0771 113 9711, Dave Tebbutt regarding juniors on 07805 706 860 and Sarah Braker for the Sirens on 0771 044 9938. Otherwise, if you would like to help with coaching you would also be very welcome. The club will help to fund any training and certificates required for you to become a qualified ECB coach. Alternatively of course, if you just wanted to turn up to watch a game, members of the public are always very welcome. The club has a lovely ground with excellent parking facilities and what better way to spend a summer’s afternoon or evening than relaxing on the boundary and watching a game of cricket.
