Classic Car Run for Drive it Day
Drive it Day is usually the last Sunday in April for historic vehicle enthusiasts and the public to celebrate the One Thousand Mile Trial first organised in 1900 to celebrate the motor car!
For the first time, in the nine years that local residents Terry and Vicki have been organising classic car runs for Rainbow’s Hospice for Children and Young people, they had very challenging wet weather.
Sadly, as a result of the rain nine cars were unable to attend. An open top car isn’t so viable a proposition in wet weather! However, most had paid in advance and didn’t ask for a refund and one person made a very generous donation which was a tremendous help.
The start once again was at Stonehurst Family Farm and Motor Museum thanks to the generosity of the owner. Hot drinks were available and bacon butties for those who need to top up breakfast!
The journey of 53 miles ventured out towards Barkby and Beeby, Ingarsby, Illston, Medbourne, Launde and Knossington, ending up at Gates Garden Centre at Cold Overton.
There the participants could enjoy the refreshments and, if wanted, a bit of shopping.
The weather didn’t dampen the spirits of those who took part who agreed it was an interesting run.
It was a bonus to find that the run raised £550 for the Hospice.
We are now looking forward to our major run of the year on Sunday 3rd September to Barnsdale Gardens.
