Syston Celebrates The Coronation
Coronation Party in the Park
On Sunday 7th May, people of Syston gathered at Central Park to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, that took place the previous day. This was a day for the entire community to come together and celebrate our new King, have a picnic with family and friends and take in the amazing entertainment of Syston. The event started at midday and ran through until 8pm.
There were several stalls around the park including a sweet stall, a coffee van, multiple food stands and a camper van decked out to serve cocktails, with the standout stall being the Syston Royal British Legion. Their stall really stood out, decorated with Union Jacks and a constant ring of laughter and chatter. Groups of people congregated around the RBL stall creating a focal point on the park. They really brought the essence of Britain and the Coronation to the event.
A section of the park was dedicated to a selection of fun-fair rides from Billy Bates Fun Fair. It was nice to see children, parents and couples alike participating all together, and for a great part of the day it was bustling with the smiling children of Syston. Two stilt performers were roving throughout the event entertaining and dressed in beautiful colourful outfits, Union Jacks included.
Further afield in the park, families brought along picnic tables, dressing them in coronation decoration to enjoy their picnics. Some people were out soaking up a little sunshine, taking in the atmosphere. There was so much chatter and laughter from a wonderful turn out for the community.
Entertainment from U3A, The Happy Ukulele Band, The Elderly Brothers Trio, Syston Band, Carter & Harman, and Sarah Clarke brought together the whole event. The music throughout the day felt the best of British, and it was fantastic. My personal favourite was Sarah Clarke, dressed in a super sparkly Union Jack dress. She sang some amazing songs and was even joined by some young dancers on stage. A girl after our own hearts at Stn.
Overall, the day was amazing and even the weather joined in to provide us with a warm bright day. It was incredible to once again see the community come together to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III. As the national anthem rang out across the park, the community came together to sing and show what Britain really is about. Thank-you everyone who turned up and made this a Coronation weekend to remember.
