Barkby and Beeby W.I.

Cllr Andrew Brown JP outlined his life as a farmer and his year as High Sheriff of Rutland to Barkby and Beeby WI. He explained the origins of representing the monarch through this role from circa 1440.
The checked table brought about the term ‘exchequer’ and the clearing of the verges became the ‘verger’.
The 18th century uniform is the same as ‘Black Rod’ and the arms of the sheriff were the two swords mentioned at the recent Coronation.
