St Peter and St Paul Church News
Farewell
A special service was held on Sunday 23rd June, not only to celebrate St Peter & St Paul’s Day (whose usual festive day is 29th June) but also the final service conducted by Reverend Biddy Saunders who has been working in Syston Parish for nine years.
At the end of the service the Associate Minister Sue Essex presented Biddy with a Syston White Plum tree and an envelope of donations from the church PCC and members of the congregation. Biddy’s delight at the tree was obvious!
Following the service the congregation and other guests met in the church hall for a special celebratory lunch. More gifts were donated and speeches made. It was a wonderful occasion of fellowship.
Cream Teas
Well, our summer of afternoon teas kicked off on Saturday 8th July and despite the conflict of Wimbledon and stormy weather it was reasonably well attended.
Scones from the local bakery were enjoyed along with lashings of clotted cream and strawberry conserve. Two people even had a pew picnic. There is plenty of space in the church to look around at the architecture and installations going back centuries and there’s always a knowledgeable person on hand to answer questions.
We have decided to add cheese scones, butter and chutney onto the available fare on the Saturday 12th August, so why not join us, 2.00pm till 4.30pm, in St Peter & St Paul’s church.
On Saturday 9th September the third of our Cream Teas will take place but this is a special weekend as part of Heritage Week. There will be an exhibition on Weddings on Saturday 9th, 10am to 4.30pm and Sunday afternoon 1.00pm to 4.30pm. The Cream Tea will be on Saturday 1pm.to 4.30pm. Refreshments will be available during Sunday afternoon.
Jesus says in Matthews gospel “If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. Take the yoke I give you, put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.”
