Welcome to Rev’d Ros Harper

Walking around Syston over the past few weeks it has been a real joy to see the beautiful Autumn colours on the trees even if most of these have now been blown off by the recent storms!
Autumn is always one of my favourite times of the year and as a former teacher Autumn for me is also a time of new beginnings: a new school year with a new class; new people to meet; new things to learn.
This Autumn has also been a new beginning for me as on 7th September I was licensed as the new Vicar for St Peter and St Paul’s Church in Syston and St Hilda’s Church in East Goscote. The service took place at St Hilda’s and I received a very warm welcome from both churches and from representatives from the local community.
Moving to a new place is always a big change but I’ve really been enjoying getting to know people and becoming part of the wider community. I’m often out walking my dog around the town, so please do say hello if you see us. I’ve found Syston to be a very friendly and welcoming place with lots going on.
Although tucked round the corner from the busy main road, my vision is that St Peter and St Paul’s church would be at the heart of this community. A place of welcome and friendship which seeks to serve the community of which it is a part as we follow Jesus’ commandment to love our neighbour.
St Peter and St Paul’s is your parish church for the people of Syston. The main Sunday service is at 10.30am and everyone is welcome. There is also lots going on at the church during the week.
On Tuesdays at 10.00am our toddler group ‘Tots at Ten’ meets in the Church Hall. Our midweek service of Holy Communion on Wednesdays at 9.30am is popular with those who enjoy a quieter service or like to take some time out during the week. Or join us in the Church Hall on Wednesday afternoons at 2.00pm for Craft and Chat.
For more information about what’s happening in the church, including our Christmas events and services, have a look at our Facebook page or keep an eye on the noticeboards in the churchyard. If you would like to ask about baptisms or weddings then please do get in touch.
Maybe now is the time for you to make a new beginning and see what your local church has to offer.
You can be assured of a very warm welcome.
