Dear Editor,
Thank you for the coverage of the Syston floods in your last edition of the Syston Town News. I just want to make the readers and those elected members of the Council/Parliament aware, that the 2nd January 2024 wasn’t the end of it for some residents of Syston and some are still not back in their homes.
My 87 year old mother had to move out on the evening of the 2nd to stay with my sister and we have a timescale of six months before her property will be ready for her to move back into. Luckily she lives in sheltered housing and has now been offered accommodation at another property in Syston but this is a massive upheaval and isn’t the same as being in her own home.
This is the same for a lot of Syston residents that were displaced on that night, and we also have the worry of ‘when will it happen again’.
So whilst the Syston Town Council and the Environment Agency play tit for tat and discuss the Riparian rights and whose responsibility it is, I think they should consider the people of Syston and show some empathy as that was clearly lacking at the Council meeting of the 9th January.
