Age Concern Receive Grant from Severn Trent
Age Concern Syston celebrates after receiving £16k from Severn Trent Community Fund to help provide support for our local elderly community.
Based in Syston’s High Street, for over 40 years Age Concern Syston has been helping hundreds of our local elderly residents from all over Syston, East Goscote, Queniborough, Barkby, Rearsby and Cossington each and every year.
Thanks to a £16,250 grant from Severn Trent Community Fund’s recent Core funding stream, the charity has had a kickstart in securing some of the necessary funding to keep this vital service running.
Staffed by 4 part-time staff and a group of 20+ dedicated volunteers, Age Concern Syston provide an information and advice service as well as four regular social activity groups and transport assistance – supporting those that are housebound or socially isolated with a reasonably priced hot meal, opportunity to leave their homes and enjoy friendly company.
The activities on offer all support the physical and good mental health of our elderly community. Including, sing along sessions, art classes, exercise classes, craft sessions and guest speakers all for the price of a cup of coffee.
The funding from the Severn Trent Community Fund: Core funding, which awards grant money to groups that run for the benefit of local residents, supporting those most vulnerable – will go a long way to supporting Age Concern Syston in continuing to provide a valuable service to the elderly community for the next 12 months.
Jennie Angell, Chair of Age Concern Syston says: “We’re delighted that the Severn Trent Community Fund has recognised our work in this way. We’re thankful for the funding so that we’ll be able to continue our valued support for the elderly community of Syston and surrounding villages.”
Sue Heyes, Community Fund Officer at Severn Trent, said: “We’re really proud to support the invaluable work of Age Concern Syston and help them continue the brilliant support they provide. We have 2 support streams for charities at Severn Trent Community Fund. Our new project funding is open all year around and Core Funding will re-open for applications in summer.
