Thurmaston Royal British Legion – 90th Celebration Open Event
On Saturday 18th May 2024, members of the Thurmaston Royal British Legion will be holding an Open Event for two main reasons;
The first is to celebrate the 90th year of Thurmaston Branch and the second is to note the honour of being asked by the Son of William Edward (Ted) Herrick to take ownership of his World War 2 medals, namely; 39 – 45 Star / 39 – 45 Medal / Defence Medal / Africa Star / Italy Star / France and Germany Star and the Commemorative Normandy Medal.
The Open Event at the Club on Melton Road, Thurmaston will run from 2pm – 5pm and will have fundraising stalls from local groups/charities, entertainment during the afternoon including local school groups and musical clubs, the Darts/Skittles and Pétanque teams which are based at the club will be on site for you to “have a go”, the RBL Riders branch will also be with us and you can enjoy a drink from the bar or have a cup of tea and a slice of cake in the garden.
It will be an honour for the branch to take ownership of the medals and we would like to invite you all to spend the afternoon with us and be present and part of the unveiling. Thurmaston Royal British Legion Club is now 1 of only 5 that remain within Leicestershire and the medals will be proudly exhibited there – what a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon, supporting local charities and the Royal British Legion – come along and join us – it will be an enjoyable afternoon.
Of course we are always looking for any donations for the raffle and stalls, if you have anything suitable that you would like to donate please either drop into the Legion Club directly or email your contact details to thurmaston.secretary@rbl.community and we will be in touch with you.
Many thanks and hope to see you all on Saturday 18th May.
