Grow Give Live
At the Garden Café in April, we launched our Big Spring Raffle.
We have prizes from East Midlands Railway – you could travel to London and back in style, like last year’s winner did – local businesses The Pharmacie Arms, Delish and Papermoon and gifts from Tesco. Tickets are on sale now at £2 each, and can be bought from The Pharmacie Arms, Delish, or by contacting us on
growgivelivesyston@gmail.com or through our Facebook page facebook.com/growgivelive/.
The draw will take place on Wednesday 15th May at 7pm at the Pharmacie Arms. All proceeds go towards the community garden spaces we maintain in Syston, growing edible produce with and for the community.
We have started planting at Scotia Press – we have a fruit bed in the corner, with strawberries, raspberries and a thornless blackberry – fingers crossed for a good harvest from those. We’ve also planted some potatoes and put in some bee friendly plants in to encourage pollinators over to help us out.
The allotment has had a big spring clean – huge thank you to Josh and Neil at Syston Town Council for helping us with the truck for transporting the rubbish away, and to the volunteers who came and helped.
The space is looking much better, giving us a blank canvass to work on – we’ve planted some more potatoes, strawberries and raspberries up there, with space for plenty more – courgettes, squash, pumpkins, tomatoes and much more are all in the plan.
We will be at the allotment (plot 73B, first on the left as you go into the allotments on Upper Church Street) every Friday morning between 10am and 12pm – everyone is welcome to join us. There’s no expectation to have any knowledge of gardening or growing, or even to do any digging – just come along to see some friendly faces and enjoy being outdoors.
We have many more activities planned for this year – if you would like to find out how you can join in or are just curious about Grow Give Live, please get in touch, we’d love to hear from you.growgivelivesyston@gmail.com, facebook.com/growgivelive, Instagram: growgivelivesyston
