Syston Summer Fayre

On Saturday 31st August, the annual Summer Fayre took place on Central Park after a long time in the planning, it was good to see all the stallholders arriving and setting up ready to open to the public at 12 noon.
The Mayor of Charnwood, Cllr Dr Julie Bradshaw MBE accompanied by the Mayoress Julie Ellerbeck and the Vice Chairman Cllr Satish Visavadia, officially opened the Summer Fayre and then spent about two hours walking around the Fayre and meeting the stall holders and even making a few purchases. The Mayor thoroughly enjoyed her visit and thanked the committee for all their hard work in getting this event organised for the benefit of the people of Syston and surrounding villages.
The performers on the two stages entertained the audience all afternoon and it was great to see people had brought chairs and blankets and stayed all afternoon, which began very warm but got a little cooler when it became overcast, but fortunately, the rain stayed away!
The committee would like to thank its sponsors for this year, Millington’s Travel, DR Electric, Designer Daisies and Syston Town News. We would also like to thank everyone who took part to make this the best day since we took over this event in 2019.
All the stall holders, charity stalls, group stalls, craft and small business stalls, the beer and cider, and gin bars, the mini fair, the scouts and the performers who entertained all afternoon, said they had a great day and raised a lot of money for the charities taking part. A big thank you to them for coming along.
Thank you to the Syston Band who started the event and the Swing Band that headlined and closed the event. All the wonderful dance groups: Studio 79, QDC, Goscote Dance; LVT Dance and Singers, Bollyark Dance, the Dance Academy. Plus, Blue Wave Martial Arts, Soloist Adele Rose Wilkinson, and Syston Scout and Guide Band.
All our wonderful volunteers on the day who help to set up and take down stalls on the day, the stage crew and our marshals who helped guide people on and off the park safely, we couldn’t do this without you all, so thank you. Plus all the litter pickers who kept the park clean during and after the event.
But most of all a huge thank you to you all, everyone who came along and supported this FREE event for our community organised by a voluntary community group.
If you would like to join our committee, please email us via systonsummerfayre@gmail.com and we will get back to you. We meet monthly to plan and organise this event and we would love you to join us.
