A Successful Collaboration

Radfield Home Care Leicester partners with Syston and District Volunteer Centre to Provide Essential Transport Services
Radfield Home Care Leicester has teamed up with the local charity, Syston and District Volunteer Centre, to offer much-needed transportation support to vulnerable members of the community. This partnership is making a significant impact by providing crucial transport services to elderly, infirm, and rurally isolated individuals across the area.
With growing concerns over accessibility for those living in rural areas or with mobility issues, Radfield Home Care Leicester stepped forward with an innovative solution. The home care provider is offering its carers as volunteers to support Syston and District Volunteer Centre’s existing services. This collaboration ensures that those in need, particularly the elderly and isolated, have a reliable means of transportation for essential journeys, including medical appointments, grocery shopping, and social activities.
A Lifeline for the Community
For many elderly and infirm residents, getting out and about can be a challenge. In rural areas, this challenge is even more pronounced due to limited public transport options. By pooling their resources, Radfield Home Care and Syston and District Volunteer Centre are alleviating this issue, ensuring no one in the community is left stranded.
Sona Bharkhada, Director at Radfield Home Care Leicester, shared her thoughts on the partnership: “We’ve always been committed to supporting the well-being of our clients and the broader community. When we learned about the challenges faced by residents with limited mobility, we knew we could help. Our carers have built strong relationships with the people they care for, and now they are extending that care by volunteering to drive those who need assistance.”
This partnership is a win-win for all involved. Radfield carers, who already have a deep understanding of working with vulnerable groups, are well-placed to offer both the practical and emotional support that makes a difference. Their familiarity with clients’ specific needs ensures that those receiving assistance feel safe and comfortable during their trips.
A Collaborative Effort
Syston and District Volunteer Centre established since 1977 has been dedicated to providing transport for those in need within the local communities, but the increasing demand has put pressure on their resources. Working alongside Radfield has allowed them to expand their reach.
Paul Lomas, Chairman of the board of Trustees at Syston and District Volunteer Centre, expressed his gratitude for the collaboration: “The support we’ve received from Radfield Home Care has been invaluable. Their willingness to volunteer their time and carers has allowed us to reach more people and provide a more personalised service. Many of the individuals we help are unable to use public transport, and this partnership is helping to restore their independence.”
A Sustainable Future
As the partnership grows, Radfield Home Care Leicester and Syston and District Volunteer Centre are looking at ways to further develop their efforts. Discussions are already underway to explore other volunteer opportunities and enhance services for the community.
For now, the focus remains on ensuring the most vulnerable members of society can access the transportation they need. Both organisations are committed to continuing their work and making a lasting impact on Leicester’s rural and urban populations.
A Model of Community Spirit
The collaboration between Radfield Home Care Leicester and Syston and District Volunteer Centre exemplifies the power of community partnerships.
By working together, they are helping to address one of the key challenges faced by vulnerable individuals, lack of access to essential services, while fostering a sense of belonging and care within the community.
