New Barkby WI

President, Shirley Franklin, welcomed New Barkby members to the institute’s November meeting (the 99th year). Jerusalem was sung, followed by monthly business matters.
Then, the meeting became the Annual Meeting.
All present committee members will continue to serve in various roles, and Shirley Franklin was re-elected as President.
Secretary, Angela Montague gave her report, plus the Treasurer’s and then Shirley in her speech thanked Angela for her role as secretary, and to Lou Chapman for organising two recent theatre trips. Above all, she gave a big thank you to all members of the committee and the institute.
Afterwards members enjoyed refreshments during social time.
The competition for ‘A Trophy’ you have won; was won by Valerie Cobb.
The raffle prize winner was Janine Bond.
Members were also able to look at an album of photographs of former W.I. meetings, and read notes of the first ever meeting of New Barkby WI – something to remember, plus an original trophy that used to be awarded for competitions, now superseded by a smaller one.
Later on this month, members will enjoy an evening meal to celebrate the 99th birthday of the institute.
The next meeting will be held on Wednesday 4th December with Patchwork for pleasure – A Demonstration. The meeting will be held in the Syston a community Centre at 7.30pm. Visitors always welcome.
