Sophie Tea at Syston!

On Friday 14th February, Age UK were thrilled to have a visit from artist and social media star Sophie Tea Art.
Following the sad news of the shop’s break-in a few weeks ago, a volunteer reached out to Sophie in the hopes she could visit the shop as part of her ever-popular and viral ‘Charity Shop Friday’ series. To her surprise, Sophie responded and offered to come and spread some love on Valentine’s Day.
Staff and volunteers were delighted and a bit star struck when Sophie visited the shop and purchased a small leather hip flask for just £2.50 which she took away to hand paint in her signature style and bring back later in the day to raffle for one lucky buyer.
Having posted her visit on her Instagram to her 900,000 followers, people flocked to the shop and crowds started to gather both inside and outside!
When Sophie returned, she was overwhelmed with the response from the local community even commenting that this was the biggest crowd she’d ever had! She handed out raffle tickets to all in attendance and Katie was the lucky winner who was able to buy this one-of-a-kind piece. Sophie then stayed to greet everyone, signing unique items bought from the shop and taking selfies with fans. It was a fantastic day and we’re so grateful for the opportunity and everyone that came down to support our charity and celebrate with us.
