St Peter and St Paul’s Church News
Holy Week and Easter
In preparation for Easter, Holy Week is very special.
Services following the Stations of the Cross began the week.
On Maundy Thursday a special service, at St Hilda’s East Goscote, was held to recall The Last Supper Jesus had with his disciples, including the washing of the feet, the institution of the Holy Communion and the Garden of Gethsemane.
On Good Friday at noon Churches Together in Syston made a Walk of Witness starting at the Community Centre. The walk followed a route around the town centre pausing in various places to pray and sing. Afterwards hot cross buns were enjoyed at the Methodist Church.
In the evening there was a time of quiet reflection with a service of Compline and Tenebrae.
Then, at last, we were able to rejoice on Easter Day morning with the lighting of the new fire to celebrate Jesus, the Light of the World.
And sing with great joy, Jesus Christ is risen today, Allelujah!
Evensong with Leicester Cathedral
On Sunday 11th May we were joined by the choir from Leicester Cathedral for a service of Evensong followed by a concert. It was wonderful to see so many people in church and to hear such beautiful music. Afterwards refreshments and cakes were served in the Church Hall. A retiring collection raised over £300 for the heating appeal.
