Syston Branch Laying of the Standards and Legion d’Honour

On Sunday 4th May, the Syston branch of the Royal British Legion joined members of the St Peter and St Paul church service to lay a couple standards in the church.
It was lovely to be apart of this event and witness the standards being processed through the church to be laid on the alter at the front of the church, as shown in the photograph plus the group of veterans.
In the afternoon, the family and friends of Sid Willcocks gathered in the Malt house Club, High Street, Syston to witness him being presented with a Legion d’honour, by Lt col (retired) Bryon Brotherton MBE ex Royal Scot’s Dragoon guards, see our picture below.
The Legion d’honour is highest honour awarded by France to military personnel and civilians for their bravery in service.
It was an honour to be invited to this event and see Sid Willcocks presented with his medal.
Sid celebrated his 101st birthday on Tuesday 6th May. SKB put a tribute out in Sileby for his birthday.
