St Peter and St Paul’s Church News
Revd Canon John Leonard
On 15th June Revd Canon John Leonard led his final service at St Peter and St Paul’s as he celebrated 60 years of ordained ministry. John and his beloved wife Jane, who passed away last year, have been a part of the church community for many years since moving to Syston. Many will know them from the 11:30 family service that they ran together. We are so grateful to them for their many years of ministry in Syston. Friends and family from far and wide came to celebrate. After the service there were further celebrations with refreshments and a very special cake.
Patronal Festival
On Sunday 29th June we celebrated the feast day of St Peter and St Paul, our Patronal Festival. We were joined by friends from other local churches including Thurmaston, East Goscote, Queniborough and Rearsby. It was wonderful to see the church so full of people and to have the opportunity to worship and pray together. Afterwards refreshments and cake were served in the church hall.
Skipathon
We would like to say a huge thank you to the pupils from St Peter and St Paul’s CE Academy who held a Skipathon in aid of the heating appeal. It was a very hot day but they were undeterred and raised over £300. We are hoping to begin work to install the new heating in the Autumn.
Cream Teas
On Saturday 12th July we held the first cream tea of the season. Despite the baking hot weather it was a huge success with many people coming to enjoy the cool of the church! Fantastic entertainment was provided by RJ Vocal Group who sang hits from Queen, Pink and Madonna with great enthusiasm.
The next cream tea dates are:
Saturday 16th August 2pm to 4pm: U3A Choir and VJ Day Anniversary Exhibition
Saturday 13th September 2pm to 4pm: Ride and Stride
All proceeds from these events will go towards building our heating appeal pot. There will be forms in church if you also wish to sponsor a pew heater or something larger!
Christmas Tree Festival
Future date to be noted 28th November to 1st December Christmas Tree Festival.
