Birstall & District Art Society

Birstall & District Art Society are celebrating another successful annual exhibition, which was held on 1st and 2nd November.
In his opening address at the Friday Preview Evening, Parish Council Chair Robert Vincent praised the work of the society and urged everyone to continue to promote art, particularly with our young people.
The standard of work was high and after much deliberation by judges Amanda Jackson, Caroline McFarlane, Ian Cox and Lesley Brookes, the following were chosen as category winners:
Still life/ abstract/experimental/ flowers – Ken Holt for Ancient Stones (highly commended Shaun Larkin for Whanganui Breathing)
Townscape/ waterscape/ coastal – Pauline Brindley for Lobster Pots (highly commended Michael Lambell)
Portraits/ figures/ animals – John Widger for Crocodile (highly commended Mick Joyce for Maddie)
Landscape / gardens – Scilla Gallop for Old Ash Tree (highly commended Ian Southwood for From Small Acorns)
The Judges’ Best in Show was awarded to Pauline Brindley for Lobster Pots, and the Junior award was given to Krystin Spearey for Salon Moo-D.
The Exhibition was well-supported and enjoyed by many. The People’s Choice award will be announced at the BADAS AGM in December.
