County Councillor Simon Bradshaw’s Report
Remembrance Sunday
It was an honour to lay a wreath on behalf of Leicestershire County Council at our Remembrance Service on Sunday 9th November, we then joined the Church Service at St Peter and St Pauls church with some excellent hospitality afterwards at the Conservative club, thank you to the Syston Royal British Legion for organising and it was also great to see so many of our young people attending from our local organisations and groups.
Taylor-Wimpey Application South East Syston
Thank you to all the residents who have signed our petition to date, I stood in the Town Square on Saturday 16th and over 70 residents came along and signed which is fantastic, I would also like to thank the volunteers who have been going house to house to get signatures, this is Syston coming together to try and stop something we don’t need, there is still time to sign the petition at Syston Town Council offices and we are asking everyone to make their objections online when the application goes live at Charnwood Borough Council.
Local Government Reorganisation
Leicestershire County Council unanimously voted to submit a plan to the government for one Leicestershire Council with no expansion of the city centre, our town of Syston has its own charm and character and should not be swallowed up in a city land grab. We also asked the government for a referendum vote if the city did try to expand into the county, we asked that this be paid for by the government and not the taxpayers of Leicestershire but have since been told this is not part of the process and there will be a public consultation instead which is very disappointing, but myself and fellow Conservative County Councillors will continue to push for no expansion of the city.
I would like to finish this report by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Peaceful New Year
