Local councillors and volunteers celebrate first ever Syston ‘Coats for All’ event
The ‘Coats for All’ initiative has once again brought people together to help keep families warm and dry through the winter. This year marked an exciting milestone: the first-ever Coats for All event in Syston.
Already well established in Sileby, where it has been running for four years, Coats for All expanded to Syston for the first time thanks to the hard work of local Green Party activist Rebekka Yates and Green councillor Laurie Needham. The response from Syston residents was outstanding, with a record number of coats donated and dozens of local families supported.
Rebekka Yates, who helped lead the launch in Syston, said:
“I’m so pleased we were able to bring Coats for All to Syston this year. The generosity has been incredible. People didn’t just donate coats, they came together to share, support, and look after one another. Thanks to this community spirit, we were also able to help Women’s Aid, homeless charities, and local charity shops. Every donation has made a real difference to someone locally.”
Cllr Laurie Needham added:
“Coats for All is such a brilliant project because it supports people and famialies financially while also reducing waste. By reusing coats that might otherwise be thrown away, we’re helping the environment and strengthening our community at the same time. I’m so proud that Syston has embraced this event so wholeheartedly.”
Coats for All collects and redistributes warm coats and waterproofs to anyone who needs them, keeping people warm while cutting down on waste.
Following the success of this first Syston event, organisers confirm it will return next year, even bigger and better.
