Syston’s Parade for Remembrance
On Sunday 9th November, Syston gathered for their annual parade to remember those who fought for our freedom.
Led by Owen Gardener from the Syston Cadets, at 10.45am the parade marched on towards the Syston Memorial, Central Park.
There was no piper this year, but it didn’t stop the parade being as amazing as ever. Once again, the community of Syston came out in their masses to bear witness to the parade and a wonderful service of remembrance for our veterans and service personnel.
Leading the Syston Branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) was Chairman, Gary Taylor accompanied by Deputy Lieutenant (DL) Professor Bob Allison, Followed by Local Veterans, Syston Town Council with Cllr James Poland and Cllr Simon Bradshaw with Stephanie Bradshaw representing MP Ed Argar and Cllr Sarah Braker representing Charnwood Borough Council, Representatives of Syston Twinning and the Local Army Cadets. All followed by Syston’s Local groups including the Scouts, Guides, Brownies etc.
After the exhortation was read by Tony Bond and the Last Post played. Syston fell silent at 11am to remember those who gave their tomorrow for our today. A lovely service was given by Rev. Ros Harper and Sue Essex.
After the parade was dismissed and the service at the church was finished, people gathered at the Malt House Club for refreshments, and it was a wonderful turnout.
Lee a member of the RBL had created a picture of a bomber made entirely out of poppy appeal pin badges and the total count of pins was 302. Once again, it was another beautiful Sunday to remember all those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Thank you to all who had arranged the parade and a massive thank you goes to The Malt House Club and the Syston RBL for putting on a wonderful afternoon of refreshments and entertainment.
