Decommissioned Post Box for Syston Knitting Banxy
You may remember in our last issue we explained that Royal Mail had converted the post box outside of the Post Office on High Street to one that can also take parcels, thus prevent our fabulously talented Syston Knitting Banxy from putting one of her amazing creations on top of it.
Many people in Syston were upset by this and one resident set up a petition which online raised over 1300 signatures, our County councillors and MP wrote to the CEO of Royal Mail, but they didn’t change their decision.
So another resident set up a fund raising page via gofundme to buy our SKB her own Post box so she can continue to bring joy, which we all need on these cold dark days.
The gofundme page has reach a total of £2,500, as at time of print.
This total was helped by two Syston business women, Tracey from Off the Rails and Charlotte from Leaf it with Me garden design, who got together before Christmas. They dressed up as a Post Box with a SKB original topper on it, and a ball of wool complete with Knitting needles. They then were joined by some others dressed as elves and went carol singing around the town on Saturday 20th December.
They did 11.00am to 1.00pm during the day starting at the Post Office on High Street, then going through the Town square before joining up with The Happy Ukulele band to perform a couple of Carols, where they were joined by Angie from Age UK Book shop who was dressed up as a Cracker. They then continued through the town and up to TESCO where they joined Syston Band for another couple of carols.
Then in the evening between 7.00pm and 9.00pm they visited the pubs and clubs on high street and the area and they were accompanied by a flutist.
They raised over £645 which was amazing and we thank everyone who kindly donated to them on that day.
SKB Said: ‘Thank you’ to the Royal Mail for embracing the 117 post box toppers I have created, thank you to the public for their continued support, and to my followers, don’t worry, there’ll be plenty more to see yet! I still have a mountain of yarn to work through’.
However, there is still some more needed to achieve enough to buy a decommissioned post box, restore it and have it installed in to an agreed position for SKB, so if you can donate, please do.
