Hadrian’s Wall Fundraising Walk Completed
We featured Dave Jones and his team in the June issue before they set off for their walking challenge at the end of May to raise funds for the Syston Summer Fayre event.
Here is Dave’s report after they completed the walk successfully during the heat wave.
Our epic Hadrian’s Wall Sponsored Walk has been completed, putting to one side the overwhelming heat, blisters, aches and pains, it was an absolute pleasurable experience, the stunning scenery of Northumberland was without doubt a wonderful backdrop to the walk.
The walking team David Jones, Stuart Jones, Luke Jones, Geoff Saddler, Neil Adams, Gareth Roberts and Jacques Bree began their walk in Bowness-On-Solway together with four legged pets Phoebe and Murphy and ended their walk in Newcastle, west to east, 84 miles in total. The Photograph above shows the team after the first checkpoint on 24th May 2026.
The aim of the sponsored walk itself was to raise much needed funds for the Syston Summer Fayre, held on Central Park to go ahead this year, this event, enabling local charities and not for profit groups to fund raise during the event, whilst also providing plenty of fun and entertainment on the park for the whole community of Syston on the day.
The Summer Fayre team of volunteers are not connected to Syston Town Council, in fact they pick up a charge from the council for the use of the park, and along with other expenses the event tends to cost over £2,000 a year to go ahead.
The sponsored walk has raised £885 to date and we thank all those people who have donated, and we have decided to keep the option of donating open for a while, so, should you be reading this and wish to donate, please use the link below, and we thank you for any donations.
