Viva La Musica
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness, Saturday 4th July 2026
Local chamber choir, Viva la Musica, will present a concert of American choral music to mark the 250th anniversary of the American Declaration of Independence at Trinity Methodist Church, Royland Road, Loughborough, 7.30pm.
The programme includes music by Copland, Bernstein, Lauridsen, Whitacre and Barber.
Film lovers may recognise Barber’s intense Adagio for Strings, from the film, Platoon, which the choir will perform in its choral setting – Agnus Dei. Copland is well known for his ‘Fanfare for the Common Man’ – the choir will sing his 4 motets and the amazing ‘In the Beginning’. Fans of Whitacre can look forward hearing ‘Sleep’ and ‘A Boy and a Girl’, both hauntingly beautiful pieces.
There’s much to look forward to in this concert! Tickets (£15) are available through the choir’s website https://www.vivalamusica.org.uk.
The choir has an extensive catalogue of recordings on YouTube and posts regular snippets on Facebook to whet your appetite.
