Open Gardens in June

The National Garden Scheme is a charity which by opening gardens raises much needed funds for Cancer and Nursing charities such as Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, and Hospice UK donating over £3M to charities last year.
There are 57 gardens within 25 miles of Syston open in June for visitors to enjoy. You can enjoy the tranquility of a lovely garden, help to raise funds for charity and be sure of a warm welcome with tea and homemade cakes. Why not come along?

On the 2nd June 300 year old Dairy Cottage, pictured above, in Sapcote (LE9 4JN) opens its romantic cottage garden filled with herbaceous plants and unusual shrubs. Climbing up the many arches and pergolas there are over 90 Roses and Clematis, combined with Alliums, Geraniums, Angel’s fishing Rods and Foxgloves – a plant lover’s paradise packed with colour. There is also a walled garden, fernery, woodland path and a stumpery leading to a neat Potager and clematis hedge.
This garden has the added bonus of our own NGS ‘Gardener’s Question Time’. There will be two very experienced gardeners on hand to answer your gardening questions and give practical advice
Opening on the 22nd and 23rd in Loughborough, at 134 and 94 Herrick Road are gardens attached to Victorian Terraces houses. 134 is a small garden brimming with plants, shrubs and climbers including herbs, and alpine bed, and a veg plot. The owner designs and makes her own willow plant supports which are on show around the garden and available to order. 94 Herrick Road is a traditional garden with a collection of Geraniums and Heucheras, small pond, and three active beehives.
Opening on the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th June there are plenty of opportunities to visit Stoke Albany House (LE16 8PT) with 4 acres of country garden. In June the Roses are a particular feature as are the borders packed full of summer colour. There is also a parterre with box and roses, Potager and a water garden.
At Little Bowden, (LE16 8AX) Westbrooke house, pictured right, is open on the 30th June with 6 acres of garden surrounding a late Victorian house. Entrance is via a tree lined driveway leading to walled flower and kitchen gardens, ponds, woodland paths and a wild flower area.
On the 22nd June over at South Kilworth Oak Tree the County Organiser for Leicestershire opens her garden. If you are thinking of opening your garden next year this is an ideal time to come along for an informal chat. The garden is full of beautiful planting combining both cottage style, modern sculptures, herbaceous planting and romantic arches of roses and clematis. Late June is a perfect time to see this garden, one of our special ‘Roses and Lavender’ gardens.
These are just a few of the gardens opening in June. In all gardens there are plenty of places to sit and relax, enjoy tea, homemade cake and the garden views.
