Official Opening of the New Syston and District Cemetery
On Friday 19th July, the new Cemetery for Syston and District was officially opened by our MP Edward Argar.
The Chairman of Syston Town Council, Cllr Ken Pacey spoke to the invited guests and thanked everyone for attending, he gave some background as to how long it has taken the town council to secure a new site, in excess of 20 years. He said in that time they had faced many hurdles but he was happy to have reached their goal of opening this wonderful new cemetery.
He then thanked the following people for their contribution, firstly Cllr Steve Hampson for arranging the land and location, to the original land owners John and Jane Mansell. Justin Smith the MD of Cemetery developments who has guided the council through the project. Mark Tidesley, the solicitor who assisted with the legal aspect. Sam and Rob Harding of Glympton Construction who built the new building, Catherine Voyce and the office staff for providing the refreshments. He concluded by thanking Cllr David Pepper, who had given his time daily to visit the site and keep an eye on all aspects of the
build, gardening and much more.
He finished by thanking MP Edward Agar for his support in the community and helping with any problems and as he lives in Syston he thanked him for all he does for our Town and Charnwood and also for agreeing to officially open the building and cemetery today.
He handed over to MP Edward Argar who thanked him and the council for their tenacity in getting the new cemetery in place before the one on Barkby Road was full.
He then cut the ribbon and everyone entered the building to enjoy the refreshments.
