Halseyon Days’ on the Water
On 6th August a bottle of Kingfisher beer was used to officially launch the Baldwin Trust’s latest boat ‘Halseyon Days’, named in honour of the charities founder Burt Halsey.
Burt’s widow, Ann who launched the 68’ long narrowboat, thanked all the volunteers, trustees and fundraisers for their hard work in raising funds for the boat which is wheelchair friendly and suitable for all abilities.
The boat, which can accommodate up to 12 people and three crew, has been fitted to a very high standard with a fitted galley with fridge/freezer, cooker, microwave and crockery and cutlery. There is a large wheelchair accessible toilet area which is large enough to accommodate a carer if necessary,
adjustable tables to allow the area to be configured to your requirements and there is also a covered outdoor seating area at the bow, large opening picture windows and central heating. The boat is also fitted with radio bluetooth so you can stream your own music, USB charging points, an emergency bed and Loughborough market traders donated a defibrillator.
‘Halseyon Days’ joins the Baldwin Trust’s ‘Dandelion’ moored at Pillings Lock, Barrow and ‘St. Clare’ which is moored at Thurmaston Marina. All boats have wheelchair access lifts and are available to hire by families, groups, residential/care homes in fact anyone who would enjoy a few hours of relaxation on the river. All boats are crewed by fully qualified volunteers but that doesn’t mean you can’t have a go at steering the boat and opening the locks if you wish.
