Local Runner Creates Runday and Turns Hobby into Business with a mission to get people running
“Leicestershire has a fantastic running network, but most of it is centred around evenings. I wanted to create that support network for people who have the time and energy to run during the day”
Runday has group runs which take place each Monday, Wednesday and Friday daytime. Sessions are built on intervals measured in minutes, rather than distance, so pace doesn’t matter.
At the end of the course, runners will be able to run for 30/60 minutes without the focus being on how far they’ve run in that time.
With Runday you benefit from the encouragement of your fellow runners, people who train together are more likely to stick with a plan and and hold each other accountable. The other people in your group are expecting you to show up. Some days you’ll be the one keeping them going, other days it’ll feel like they’re pulling you along.
Safety is a really important part of why Runday exists, it’s much safer to run in a group rather than running alone, especially over the autumn and winter months. Your sessions are led by a qualified Leader in Run Fitness and your schedule and route is planned for you, so all runners need to do is be there and give it their best.
Michelle’s story and how Runday was born.
I ran in my late 20’s / early 30’s and trained for a Race for Life and eventually the Great North Run, but it wasn’t until after I had my children in 2013 and 2015, that I discovered running again. I suffered quite badly with post natal anxiety and found that running gave me a space to be myself, not mum or wife… just me again!
As my children got older and I had one at school and one at pre-school, I found that the only thing that I wanted to do with the few hours I had, was run. It gave me more energy to face the rest of the day, got some air into my lungs and helped clear my head.
I began helping friends to run, sending them schedules and routes which they completed in their own time too. Virtual Run30 got one friend from jogging for one minute intervals, right up to being able to run for 30 minutes without stopping. Virtual Run60 got another friend from being able to run for a couple of miles, to completing Rothley 10k in exactly 60 minutes! I ran every step with her and felt so much pride in what she had achieved that I just knew I wanted to reach out to more people.
“Michelle not only supported me to become fitter, faster and more confident in my running abilities, but she also took pride in me, had patience with me when life got busy, encouraged me to push myself harder when I thought I couldn’t and was so excited each time I reached the end of every run.
I would not have found my running freedom without her! Thank you so much Michelle for putting all your faith in me and being my mentor and cheerleader every week!” Said Christine Obee – Virtual Run60
“For anyone who doesn’t know Michelle, she has an infectious personality, huge smile, energy in bounds, amazing determination and anyone who gets the chance to be part of Runday will soon get to know what a star she is! – fantastic idea ‘ran’ by a fantastic runner.”
Said Kelly Parker – Wreake and Soar Valley Athletics Club
“Michelle is amazing, she has so much determination and focus that it inevitably rubs off on you! She certainly knows how to make you feel motivated and never give up on a goal.” Fay Wills – Virtual Run30
