St Mary’s Church, Barkby

St. Mary’s Church,  Barkby Our annual Soup ‘n Sweet Saturday on February 8th was a resounding success – they were queueing for a seat at the tables! On offer was a choice of four home-made soups and a fantastic selection of homemade sweets – trifles, pies, crumbles, gateau, summer puddings or bread and butter pudding.  Afterwards there was tea or coffee and most people stayed on  to chat with friends old and new. There were some lovely comments about the food and a great time was had by all. Many thanks to all who cooked, served, washed up or did the raffle, where the many prizes included a large food hamper, bottles, chocolates, ‘nice smellies’ etc.  A grand total of £451 was raised. Last but not least, we must thank our sponsors, Tesco of Melton Road, Syston who provided the delicious bread, butter, the cream and custard for the  sweets and the flowers for the table decorations. Thank you Tesco. As you know, we now have a Priest-in-charge with responsibility for Barkby and Syston – Lee will be licensed by the Archdeacon of Leicester on the 15th of March at 10 am at St Mary’s church, Barkby where the service will be led by Bishop Guli of Loughborough.  All are welcome to attend this service.
