Greetings from your Police Beat team

Things are certainly getting busier now that shops and pubs etc are open.

It is great to see more people out and about enjoying the Spring time.

However this has also led to an increase in Anti social behaviour by some people especially on the parks. We are increasing our patrols to deal with this and if anyone needs to report anything to us then please ring 101, or if it is an emergency then 999.

We have also received a couple of reports about a person(s) flying a drone and hovering over their private rear garden and over neighbouring properties.

Please can whoever owns a drone in the local area take notice and adhere to the following:

What are the rules for flying drones in the UK?

If you are flying your drone for personal use you must ensure you follow the below rules.

·       Your drone must weigh under 20kg

·       You can’t fly above 400 feet in altitude or 500 metres from you horizontally

·       Ensure your drone is always in sight

·       Always keep away from aircraft, helicopters, airports and airfields

·       Use your common sense and fly your aircraft safely i.e. avoid power lines, schools, government buildings, hospitals, prisons and any other area which you would reasonably consider it to be dangerous and or irresponsible.

If your drone is fitted with a camera there are additional regulations you must follow.

·       You must not fly within 50 metres of people, vehicles, buildings or vessels

·       Your drone must not be flown within 150 metres of a congested area or any large group of people such as a concert or sporting event as you may be prosecuted.

·       If you intend to record in an area where people are, you must inform them before you start.

If you intend to use the drone for commercial purposes you must have permission from the CAA and comply with additional laws governing their use.

To get guidance on operating permissions for drones see the CAA’s website or call 0330 022 9930 for the latest information and regulations regarding drone use.

We would also like residents to be aware of Dog thefts that is Country wide.

Please continue to enjoy walking your dogs but do be vigilant. Don’t allow people who you don’t know to pet your dogs, as it is easy to quickly undo a collar and make off with your pet.

Take notice of people around you if you let your dog off in the park or fields.

Don’t leave your dog alone in front gardens and make sure that you have locked gates to rear gardens.

Report any suspicious activity to the Police on 101 or if it is an emergency then 999.

So enjoy being out in the lovely weather but just please be aware of who is about.

Warm Regards,

PCSO 6098 Richards
