Here’s a Novel Way of Spending Time During Lockdown

Michelle Pye, owner of English Couture Company here in Syston, has been busy over the last 18 months, writing a book. In October 2019 she was approached by Crowood Press to write a book; Ladies Couture Tailoring. Drawing on her experience in bespoke tailoring workrooms, making for clients in her own business and teaching students at English Couture, she has created a step-by-step guide to making a ladies’ jacket.
Michelle started to work on the book as soon as she had the go ahead to write and found herself with a lot more time when she had to close her business on The Green during lockdown.
The book starts with a list of equipment needed and works through suggested fabrics and interfacings.
A big part of any jacket is getting the fit right. There is a whole chapter dedicated to fitting and making all the alterations to the pattern before starting to sew.
Every stage has been photographed by Michelle and her sister Wendy as construction of the jacket progressed and takes the reader through every stage of the process. Hopefully, it will encourage more people to have a go at tailoring.
The cost of Ladies Couture Tailoring is £20 and is due to be published in August. If you would like to pre-order now, either go to www.englishcouture.co.uk or call the shop on 0116 260 6767
There will be a launch party when the book arrives in the shop.
