Topsy Turvy Season Continues for Town C.C.
Syston Town 1st XI have certainly had a mixed bag of results this season. The last four weeks started with a comprehensive away victory over Loughborough Town. On a difficult track Syston did well to
reach 197-9 with Ram Ghuman scoring an excellent 74. Loughborough were never really in the hunt and were dismissed for 156 with Umar Razzaq taking 3-25. Next up, Oakham were the visitors and they amassed 256-7 on an excellent wicket. Syston made a spirited reply but fell just short on 211-9. A trip to Rothley came next and Syston were soundly beaten by the new league leaders. Rothley racked up 275-7 but Syston were encouraged by 17 year old opening bowler Huzayl Bhutta who bowled superbly to take 3-38. Syston’s innings never really got going and they slumped to 90 all out. However, Syston bounced back in emphatic fashion against Cropston. Electing to take first knock, Syston racked up 252-5 with Umar Razzaq (shown in the photo) batting through the innings for 90 not out. Cropston made a determined reply but tight bowling kept the score in check and Bilal Pardesi was the pick of the bowler with 3-28 which included a hat trick.
The 2nd XI have also had their highs and lows. Ben Drake (97) and George Corbett (54) helped the team to run up 264-7 against Countesthorpe who were all out for 230 with Chirag Modi taking 5-58. Unfortunately, three successive defeats followed. Maher Stars piled up 297-7 and Syston could only reach 94 and after Leicester Banks made 206-9, Syston were all out for 136. The next game did see a much improved performance. YMA were dismissed for 170 with George Corbett and Adam Mortimer each taking three wickets. After being reduced to 65-6 Syston looked out of it but a stand of 45 between Paddy Oakman and Chirag Modi gave cause for optimism but once they were parted the innings folded for 145.
The Sunday XI have extended their winning streak now to nine matches. A trip to Egerton Park saw the home side dismissed for 105 with Ayaan Pathan taking 4-26. Joe Howlett (47) and Kushil Tanna (36 not out) eased Syston home to win by 8 wickets. Victory over Frisby, Hoby and Rotherby followed with the visitors being bowled out for just 105 with Simran Supra (3-13) the pick of the bowlers. Syston lost only one wicket in knocking off the runs with in form Joe Howlett unbeaten on 48. A visit to Welby made it nine wins in a row in a rain affected game. Syston piled up 231-4 in 30 overs with Asad Pathan striking 107 and Mo Salagee 74. Tight bowling restricted Welby to 95-7 for a comfortable victory.
