Worrying Times For Town C.C.

Inconsistency has dogged Syston Town C.C. 1st XI all season and has left them in danger of relegation with just two games to go. When Loughborough Town visited Potters Lane, Syston played very well but ultimately lost a hard fought contest by 4 wickets. Batting first, Syston posted 155-8 with Charles Wootton top scoring with 52. Loughborough were made to struggle all the way for their victory with Zahir Taher bowling superbly to take 3-27. A trip to Oakham followed and Syston racked up what they thought was a match winning 236-4 with Ram Ghuman hitting 76 and Charles Wootton 62 not out. However, the weather intervened at tea and the match was abandoned.

The next game at home to Rothley Park was probably the match of the season. Syston piled up 276-6 with Ram Ghuman (pictured) scoring a superb 105 not out, Dan Vernon 73 and Ben Drake 40. Rothley made a determined response but were restricted to 248-9 with George Corbett taking 3-36. Inexplicably, Syston then lost their next match to already relegated Cropston. After limiting the home team to 182-9, Syston made a dreadful start and were bowled out for just 89.

The 2nd XI posted 202-8 on their trip to Countesthorpe then restricted the home side to just 150-9 with skipper Adam Mortimer taking 3-35. Maher Stars were next up and Syston set a very challenging 231-7 with Charlie Royle making 82 and Mo Salagee 43. The visitors were never in the hunt and were all out for 93 with three wickets each for Mikesh Kansagra and Adil Jariwala. A trip to Leicester Banks followed and Syston did well to bowl the league leaders out for 205 with George Royle taking 3-31. Syston started off brightly with Ollie Hubbard (30) and Kabir Dhadyalla (35) putting on 61 for the first wicket but once they were parted, the innings folded to 135 all out. A strong YMA team were the next visitors but after they started brightly, Syston’s spinners changed the game and they folded for only 135 with Chirag Modi taking 4-34. Syston eased home for a nine wicket victory with Kabir Dhadyall 64 not out and Mo Salagee 61 not out.

The Sunday XI got back to winning ways when they racked up 237-2 against Melton Mowbray with Paddy Oakman scoring 87 not out and Arjun Chowhan 50. Melton could only reach 94 in reply with Aayan Pathan doing most of the damage with 5-29. A visit to Frisby HR followed and the home team posted a challenging 229-6 with Ewan Dealey taking 3-27. Syston scraped home in the last over for a five wicket victory with Mo Salagee making 61 and Paddy Oakman 46 not out.
